I’m pregnant.
Maybe I can’t support this child.
Maybe I was raped.
Maybe I have health issues.
Maybe my unborn child has health issues and would not live long, or well.
Maybe you don’t know why I want an abortion, and I’m not going to tell you.
My right-wing and religious friends on this board….
I challenge you today, now, to tell me why your religious beliefs need to be the law of the land.
For this is what it comes down to. A fetus is not a child. A fetus cannot live outside the womb. Whether or not I want to carry that fetus to term is based on a number of factors.
The circumstances of conception.
My ability to be a good parent and have the resources to raise that child to maturity.
Health issues, both mine and the child.
These things are between me and my doctor. Or even if you like, between me and my God.
Tell me again – why do YOU need to be involved, and why do YOUR laws, based on religious belief (in violation of the first amendment, BTW) need to be roadblocks to my health, my future, or my children’s future? (and how is this not religious-based law? Remember, when Muslims do it, it’s called “sharia”. I thought you were against that?)
I personally believe it is a bigger sin to bring a child into this world where I am not prepared to be a good and viable parent, or if I or the child will have debilitating or possibly not survivable medical issues. And this doesn’t even begin to address the other side of the coin, Advanced Reproductive Therapies. I have a lot of the same questions there…why should I be punished by the church because I sought man’s help to have a child instead of leaving it “in God’s hands”?
Please, tell me. Be civil. COH, please.
